Version-Info, Version 1.00 Copyright (c) 1994 SoftCircuits Programming Redistributed by permission. Version-Info is a utility to compare the version information of files that contain a Windows version resource. If a file contains no version resource, then Version-Info will report that as well. A Windows version resource includes the language, code page, version number, and so on for a file. The functions in VER.DLL are commonly used by install programs to retrieve information from a file's version resource and install files based on this information. For example, if a file being installed already exists, the functions in VER.DLL determine if the file being installed is newer or older (and of the same type) than the existing file. Comparing the version information this way is more reliable than, for example, comparing the dates of the two files. Install programs that use VER.DLL include Visual Basic's Setup Wizard and companion setup program. Files that can contain version resources include EXE, DLL, VBX, OCX, DRV, and font files. Applications created with Visual Basic version 3.0 and before do not contain version resources; however, most VBXs do. Version-Info is useful for comparing two or more VBX or DLL files to determine if they are of the same type and which is the newer version. Version-Info uses an multiple document interface to let you easily compare several files at once. A print feature is also included to allow you to print the version information of any file. This program may be used and distributed freely on the condition that it is distributed in full an unchanged, and that no fee is charged for such use and distribution with the exception of reasonable shipping and/or media charges.
